Central Virginia Horse Rescue, Inc is a 501(c)3 small rescue located in south central Virginia and dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of needy horses. The rescue serves south central, central and Southside Virginia.

We rescue abused and abandoned animals and give them the second chance they need. At our beautiful and peaceful sanctuary, our animals are provided with everything they need to be healthy and happy. We currently care for nearly 100 horses, donkeys, dogs, cats and farm animals.

Our mission is to provide equine facilitated experiences in an environmentally sustainable way using rescued horses as a means to enable educational, social and emotional learning, and personal growth opportunities for children and adults in our community.

Powhatan Equine Rescue League's mission is to reflect the love of Christ through the rescue of abandoned, neglected and abused horses. We will provide them with rehabilitative and compassionate care until such time a loving permanent home is located. We believe educating and developing relationships with potential adopters is valuable in establishing lifelong commitments between horse and adopter.

The mission of Serenity Farm is to prevent equine neglect, abuse, abandonment where we can and rehabilitate and find loving, forever homes neglected or abused equines. We educate the public on the beauty and value of rescued horses. We give purpose to the lives of neglected or abused equines through interaction with humans, including emotionally or physically challenged individuals.

The White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of abused, neglected and at-risk Appaloosa and other horses, especially those in urgent need and in danger of slaughter. Horses that cannot or should not be adopted are given permanent sanctuary so that they may live the remainder of their lives in safety and dignity. 

The mission of The Equine Welfare Society is to educate the general public about the cost, care, management and responsible reproduction of horses, and to provide rehabilitation and training resources with the goal of transitioning them into useful and wanted companions.

“Transitioning from where they were to a better future – both horse and human” Hope 4 Horses is a nonprofit public benefit corporation organized for public, educational and charitable purposes to rescue, rehabilitate and re-train horses, to educate the public with regard to the proper care and humane treatment of horses in handling them on the ground and under saddle.

MHF rescues, rehabilitates, and adopts out animals in need and promotes animal welfare through community outreach and humane education. We accomplish our mission through our various programs: intake and adoption, Trap-Neuter-Return, food and medical care assistance, humane education and internships, and volunteer.

Our goal is to rehabilitate ex-racehorses for their new career and eventual new forever homes. Rainbows and Reawakenings for Thoroughbreds follows the Jockey Club re-entry program Thoroughbred Incentive Program.

Shenandoah Valley Equine Rescue Network (SVERN) is dedicated to providing care and rehabilitation for unwanted, abandoned, neglected, abused and malnourished horses while educating the public in equine rescue and all aspects of horse ownership and care. It is the goal of SVERN to be a resource for our community.

Willow's Haven Farm Sanctuary was born out of the desire to allow Willow to live out the rest of her life in safety. While Willow had wonderful owners before the foundation of WHFS, she found herself in need of a new ownership through no fault of anyone involved. Willow's extensive medical history and her larger than life personality did not make her a prime candidate to get adopted. Rather, it is far more likely that she would have bounced from home to home until she found herself in the slaughter pipeline and thus, WHFS was born.

Freedom & Whiskey Equine Rescue rescues, rehabilitates, rehomes, and when necessary, provides sanctuary for horses and donkeys. We rescue from slaughter auctions, owner surrenders, and law enforcement seizures.

Hope’s Legacy Equine Rescue was founded in 2008 when we took in our first horse. Since then, we’ve operated as a foster-based rescue, taking in over 150 horses, ponies, and donkeys. Most come to us from Animal Control seizures, or from owners no longer financially or physically able to care for them. Some of our horses are in sanctuary, however most are available for adoption!

New Freedom Farm exists to aid veterans and first responders with PTSD and other conditions by using the therapeutic activity with equines that are fostered through the BLM or taken in from the local Animal Control office. The end goal is to empower individuals and help them heal by realizing their efforts and contributions.

SLAAR was formed to help abused, neglected and at risk animals. Our primary goal is to rescue animals, provide them with needed care and then find them safe, loving homes. 

HCHS is a small, foster-based, volunteer-run animal rescue in the rural mountains of VA. We serve Highland County VA and our neighboring WV counties. HCHS relies solely on donations, grants and fundraising.

The James River Horse Foundation rescues former racehorses and uses them in an equine vocational program for select inmates at the State Farm Work Center in Goochland County. The horses are rehabilitated and then adopted out, if possible, or given sanctuary for life. The program teaches equine care, stable management and softer skills such as responsibility, time management, teamwork, and communication. These are skills the inmates can take with them when they return to their families and communities.

Peaceful Valley's Mission is to provide a safe and loving environment to all donkeys that have been abused, neglected or abandoned and wild burros under threat of destruction. Together, we can improve the Plight of the American Donkey.

We make it our mission to rescue horses from neglect and prevent horses from going into the slaughter pipeline. We will provide medical care, rehabilitation, LOTS of love while gaining their trust and finding them forever homes they can thrive in. 

Virginia Equine Welfare Society (VEWS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit horse rescue located in Hanover County, Virginia. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing horses in need. Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate equines in need and to prevent equine abuse and neglect through education and community awareness. We provide safe housing, medical, and rehabilitation services to abused, neglected, abandoned, unwanted, and other at-risk equines and eventually, at the appropriate time, place them into caring, compatible, adoptive homes.
